History of Ownership:The Collins Ranch has been in the Collins family since 1896 and has been the home to five generations. Over the past 127 years, the ranch has operated as a cattle ranch and in 2011, the family was a recipient of the Wyoming Centennial Farm and Ranch Award. With the growing population of wildlife, it has only been within the last 6 years that the owners have leased the land for hunting. To preserve the wildlife habitat, the family closely monitors the game taken from the ranch.

Location/Access:The ranch is located approximately 30 miles north of Gillette, Wyoming in Campbell County (20 miles to nearest airport), between State Highway 59 and US Highway 14/16. From the paved highway, it is an 8-mile drive on a well-maintained, gravel county road and an additional 6 miles on a private gravel road with year-round access.

Topography/Terrain:The ranch offers a variety of terrain to include grassland, pasture, creek bottom, timber, ridges, and valleys. Wild Cat Creek is a seasonal creek with multiple springs that runs the full length of the ranch and is populated with mature cottonwood and Cedar trees.

Wildlife/Hunting:Some of the best hunting in the state of Wyoming has been on this Ranch; it is the home to Elk, Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, and Antelope. In addition to big game hunting, the property also has it’s share of upland game birds to include Sharptail Grouse, Sage Grouse, Hungarian Partridge, Doves, Turkeys, and a few pheasants. Coyotes, Bobcats, Mountain Lions, Fox, Porcupines and Prairie Dogs also make for a fun hunt! It’s still one of the few areas in Wyoming that non-resident hunters have excellent drawing odds. BLM Cattle Lease:The Collins Ranch has a grazing allotment with the Bureau of Land Management that is transferable. The allotment #12066 covers 3960 acres and affords the ranch a total of 821 AUMs at $1.35/AUM. The lease currently runs from May 15th through August 16th. However, there are no “date restrictions” therefore, a “Change of Season Use” may be submitted upon the lease transfer and since the “Range Health Assessment” has passed and is good standing, it is likely to be granted. The term of the lease is for 10 years and is automatically renewed as long as the Range Health Assessment passes. The land has several “spring developments”, a fence on the mountain ridge and a small fence near Wild Cat Creek. The lessee is responsible for maintaining water sources and fences.
